Liverpool FC Commemorates 37 Years Since Hillsborough Tragedy

3Liverpool FC on Wednesday marked the 37th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster with a series of solemn tributes in honour of the 97 supporters who lost their lives.
The tragedy occurred on April 15, 1989, during an FA Cup semi-final clash with Nottingham Forest, where fans were unlawfully killed in one of football’s darkest moments.
To commemorate the victims, head coaches and captains from the club’s men’s, women’s, U21 and U18 sides visited the Hillsborough Memorial at Anfield, laying wreaths in remembrance.
They were joined by senior club figures, including CEO Billy Hogan, legendary former manager Kenny Dalglish, and club ambassadors Ian Rush and Natasha Dowie.
Players and coaching staff from the men’s first team also paid their respects at the Hillsborough Memorial at the AXA Training Centre.
Flags were flown at half-mast across club premises, while tributes were held throughout the city of Liverpool.
At 3:06pm—the exact time the match was halted in 1989—a moment of silence was observed in memory of the victims. This was followed by the release of 97 biodegradable balloons from the centre circle at Anfield.
In observance of the anniversary, the Anfield retail store closed at 1pm, with the LFC Museum and stadium tours also suspended for the day.
