RONALDO QUITS PORTUGAL CAMP AMID TENSION WITH COACH JORGE JESUS

Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s national team camp in Copenhagen, Denmark, amid reported tensions with head coach Jorge Jesus, just hours before the team’s Nations League encounter against Denmark.

The 41-year-old captain announced his departure on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, following a press conference by Jesus and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) President Pedro Proença.
Ronaldo’s exit came days after he was left on the bench throughout Portugal’s 2–1 victory over Norway, a decision that reportedly left the Al-Nassr forward frustrated.

Jesus had earlier acknowledged that Ronaldo was unhappy with his decision but maintained that the disagreement had been resolved.
In a statement posted on social media, Ronaldo said he would reveal the reasons for his departure at a later date, while wishing his teammates success in their upcoming matches.
The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed his departure, adding that the remaining 24 players would continue preparations for their fixtures.

Reports by Spanish newspaper Marca, cited by Reuters, said Jesus and Proença later travelled to Copenhagen airport in an unsuccessful attempt to persuade Ronaldo to remain with the squad.
Ronaldo’s sudden exit has raised questions about his international future and the possibility of disciplinary action under the federation’s rules, which reportedly allow suspensions of up to six months for unauthorised departures.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer and most-capped player, with 146 goals in 234 international appearances.
Ronaldo has yet to provide a detailed explanation for his decision.
