Tinubu Hails World Bank Report, Says Reforms Delivering Results
By Chiemeka Ugwowo
ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed findings from the World Bank, saying they affirm that his administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, are beginning to stabilise Nigeria’s economy.
Tinubu said the decision to end the petrol subsidy, although difficult, was necessary to address economic distortions and improve the country’s fiscal position.
The President maintained that the reforms were aimed at restoring economic stability, strengthening government finances and creating conditions for sustainable growth.
However, the impact of the policies remains a major concern for many Nigerians, with households and businesses continuing to face pressure from high living costs, transportation expenses and rising prices of essential goods.
The government has repeatedly defended its reform agenda, arguing that the measures are necessary to establish a more sustainable economy and lay the foundation for long-term development.
The World Bank’s assessment is expected to contribute to ongoing discussions about the progress of Nigeria’s economic recovery and the extent to which the benefits of the reforms are reaching ordinary citizens.
