TCN Hands Over Kainji Substation Site to MESL for 2x330kV Bays Construction

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially granted Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL) access to the Kainji Transmission Substation to begin construction of 2x330kV bays for Units IG3 and IG4 at the Kainji Hydro Power Plant in Niger State.

The handover marks the start of civil, electrical, and mechanical works, including testing and commissioning. Once completed, the new 110MW turbines—totaling 220MW—will feed additional power into the national grid, boosting electricity supply from Kainji.

At the ceremony, TCN’s General Manager, Materials Control and Stores, and Chairman of the Project Technical Committee, Engr. Abdulkadir Gwaram Adamu, described the milestone as critical for improving power evacuation. He commended MESL for their cooperation and noted that the project is fully funded by MESL, with no cost to TCN, and is expected to be completed by December 2026.

Engr. Cleber Romao Grisi, Chief Technical Officer of MESL, expressed gratitude for the site access and confirmed that the project would meet the agreed schedule.

Also present were key TCN executives, including Engr. Robert Bodam (GM, Business Development), Engr. Kabiru Suleiman (GM, Transmission, Shiroro Region), Engr. Ebenezer Opadare (AGM, System Electrical), and Engr. Gbenga Akorede (Principal Manager, Transmission, Kainji Work Center).
