Kenneth Okonkwo Fires Back at Obi, Warns Against Defamation Suit

Kenneth Okonkwo, ADC chieftain and former spokesperson for Peter Obi during the 2023 Labour Party presidential campaign, has warned that suing him for defamation would be “very unwise” and could force him to reveal confidential information.

Okonkwo made the remarks in a series of posts on X, responding to Obi’s threat of legal action. In a Channels Television interview, he alleged that Obi and the NDC’s south-east caucus solicited bribes from aspirants seeking House of Representatives and Senate tickets.

He claimed that Obunike Ohaegbu, a House aspirant in Anambra, messaged him alleging that Obi defrauded him of ₦10 million. Ohaegbu later denied the claim on the same programme, explaining the money went to the NDC’s account under the direction of the party’s national secretary, not Obi.

Obi has threatened to sue Okonkwo for ₦5 billion, seeking “general, aggravated, and exemplary damages” for alleged injury to his reputation.
