The National Population Commission (NPC) has officially received its newly appointed Director-General, Dr. Abuh Mohammed, with a call for unity, innovation and improved efficiency in delivering the Commission’s mandate.
Dr. Mohammed was welcomed at the Commission’s headquarters, where the Chairman of NPC, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, assured him of the full cooperation and support of Federal Commissioners, Management and staff.
Yusuf said the Commission was ready to work with the new Director-General as a united team to strengthen coordination, enhance performance and ensure responsible management of resources.
He urged staff members to support the new leadership by sharing their expertise, providing constructive contributions and working collectively to address challenges facing the Commission.
According to him, the success of the new administration would reflect the progress of the NPC and contribute to Nigeria’s development through improved population data management and planning.
“Today, we welcome not just a new Director-General, but a fresh opportunity to strengthen the work we have started and advance the mandate entrusted to this Commission,” Yusuf said.
Responding, Dr. Abuh Mohammed thanked the Chairman, Commissioners, Management and staff for the warm reception, pledging to collaborate with all stakeholders to transform the Commission and advance its objectives.
Dr. Mohammed assumed office on July 27, 2026, after his appointment was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 20, 2026. He takes over from former Director-General, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun, and will serve an initial four-year tenure.
