IIJ Abuja Deputy Director Commends NUJ, Security Agencies on Information Sharing
The Deputy Director of the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Abuja, Dr. Nicholas Igwenagu, has commended the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and security agencies for strengthening collaboration and information flow between the media and security community.
Igwenagu made the commendation in a goodwill message at the two-day media interaction organised by the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja.
He said the continued engagement between journalists and security agencies was important in promoting accurate, responsible and credible information for members of the public.
The IIJ Deputy Director stressed the need for sustained collaboration between the media and security agencies, particularly at a time when misinformation and unverified reports can create unnecessary panic in society.
He assured members of the public, the Nigeria Police Force and other security and paramilitary agencies of the continued support of the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja, towards strengthening professional journalism and effective communication.
According to him, journalists have a critical responsibility to support security agencies by providing accurate information while upholding the principles of responsible journalism.
He further assured the security community that the journalism profession would continue to partner with security agencies in the interest of peace, national security and development.
“The journalists will continue to support the security agencies till the end of time,” Igwenagu said.
