ABUJA — After more than three decades in the Nigeria Police Force, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Victor Olaiya, has bowed out of active service with a charge to serving officers to uphold integrity, discipline and professionalism in restoring and sustaining public confidence in the Force.
Olaiya gave the charge at a retirement ceremony organised in his honour by the Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja, where senior police officers, members of the Police Community Relations Committee, family members, friends and associates gathered to mark the end of his policing career.
The retiring AIG, who headed Zone 7 comprising the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State Police Commands, urged officers to remain committed to the ideals of professional policing and strengthen their relationship with the communities they serve.
“I encourage serving officers to remain committed to the ideals of professionalism, discipline, integrity and service,” Olaiya said.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Zone 7 Headquarters, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, featured a citation chronicling his career, goodwill messages, farewell remarks and a ceremonial cake-cutting.
Olaiya, who was commissioned into the Police as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, rose through the ranks to attain the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
In his farewell remarks, he expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force for giving him the opportunity to serve the country, while thanking the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, senior officers, colleagues, officers and men of the Force, as well as his family and friends, for their support throughout his career.
Speakers at the ceremony commended Olaiya for his leadership, professionalism and commitment to policing and national service.
The Zone 7 Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Halima Mohammed, said the ceremony provided an opportunity for colleagues and associates to appreciate the retiring officer’s contributions to the Force.
Olaiya also urged serving officers to recognise public confidence as a key component of effective policing and to conduct themselves in ways that would strengthen the bond between the Police and the communities they serve.
The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks, group photographs and a reception.
The Zone 7 Headquarters commended the retiring AIG for his service and wished him a fulfilling retirement and continued success in his future endeavours.
