Tinubu Restates Commitment to Satellite Town Development, Inaugurates Karu Township Roads in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to deliver people-focused infrastructure across satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), saying such projects are designed to boost local economic activity and improve residents’ quality of life.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu made the remarks in Abuja during the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated and expanded Karu Township roads, part of activities marking the third year of his administration’s commissioning of projects.

The President said the development reflects the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises extending modern infrastructure beyond the city centre to high-density communities.

According to him, the government recognised early in its tenure that sustainable development must address the everyday realities of citizens, especially in satellite towns where many live and commute from.

He noted that the Karu corridor, which serves as a major link between the FCT and neighbouring states, had long been plagued by severe traffic congestion that slowed productivity and strained daily movement.

“For years, the Karu corridor, serving as a key gateway between the FCT and neighbouring states, suffered from heavy congestion that affected productivity and drained residents’ energy,” he said.

Tinubu explained that the upgraded roads would ease traffic flow, shorten travel time, and revive economic activities within the area, adding that the intervention goes beyond asphalt to improving livelihoods.

He also commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for what he described as decisive leadership in driving urban renewal projects across Abuja, saying the visible transformation of the capital reflects effective implementation of government plans.

“The rapid transformation of Abuja would not have been possible without the focused supervision of Wike,” the President stated.

Tinubu further praised Abdul-Val Constructions Limited, the contractor handling the project, for delivering quality work, describing it as evidence that local firms can match global standards in engineering and project execution.

Earlier, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike described Karu as one of the most populated satellite towns in Abuja, noting its importance as a residential hub due to its closeness to the city centre.

He said the completed road network would significantly ease movement, allowing commuters to travel between Karu and central Abuja in under 10 minutes.

Wike urged residents to appreciate development efforts regardless of political affiliation, stressing that infrastructure projects are meant to benefit all.

He also commended the contractor for consistency and commitment to the job, noting that Abdul-Val Constructions remained dedicated even in challenging circumstances.

According to the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, the project—awarded in August 2025—covers key routes linking Karu Interchange along the Abuja–Keffi Expressway with DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Hospital Road, and Old CBN Quarters Road.

He said the completed project would improve access, enhance drainage, reduce congestion, and strengthen security in the area.
