Power Minister Tegbe Assumes Office, Calls for Sector Unity and Commends TCN
Abuja, 9 June 2026 – Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe has taken office as Nigeria’s Minister of Power, pledging stronger collaboration, better governance, and higher accountability across the country’s electricity sector.
At his first meeting with CEOs and heads of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Power, Tegbe stressed that meeting the government’s power sector goals—including boosting generation, expanding transmission, enhancing sector liquidity, and accelerating renewable energy investment—requires a unified approach among all stakeholders.
“We have made progress, but we are not yet where we need to be. By changing how we work together, we can achieve—and even surpass—our targets,” the Minister said.
Acknowledging that governance and coordination challenges outweigh technical ones, Tegbe urged agencies to operate as “one team with one mandate,” highlighting the importance of communication, intelligence sharing, and coordinated action.
He praised the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for its swift handling of a recent feeder outage, restored within 12 hours, describing it as a model of commitment and teamwork.
Tegbe also announced plans to implement a performance-based incentive framework to reward productivity, innovation, and excellence, while promising regular engagement with stakeholders.
The meeting included representatives from TCN, NAPTIN, REA, NISO, NEMSA, NERC, FGN Power Company, and NBET.
