CCAN Commends IGP Disu Over Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren, Praises 100 Days in Office
The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) has praised the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, over his assurance that schoolchildren recently abducted in Oyo State will be rescued safely, describing the statement as a sign of confidence and improved operational capacity within the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement marking the IGP’s 100 days in office on June 12, 2026, CCAN Chairman Festus Fifen and Secretary Peter Irehe said the assurance had reassured families of the victims and strengthened public confidence in the police.
The association noted that the Inspector-General’s optimism reflects an intelligence-led policing strategy that has continued to yield results in the fight against kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery, cultism and other violent crimes.
“At a moment of national anxiety over the abducted Oyo schoolchildren, the Inspector-General’s assurance reflects both operational confidence and a commitment to ensuring successful outcomes,” CCAN said.
CCAN further stated that within just 100 days in office, the police leadership has recorded notable progress through enhanced intelligence gathering, coordinated security operations, community engagement, and improved accountability mechanisms.
It added that security operatives have arrested hundreds of suspected criminals, including kidnappers, armed robbers, terrorists, cultists and murder suspects, while also rescuing at least 277 kidnapped victims across the country.
The association described the period as a shift in policing approach, driven by professionalism and strategic leadership aimed at strengthening internal security and restoring public trust.
It also commended ongoing reforms within the Force, saying they are helping to reposition the police for more effective, citizen-focused and modern policing.
