Tinubu Renames Kaduna Petroleum Institute After General Yar’Adua
President Bola Tinubu has renamed the Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.
The announcement was made during Tinubu’s Democracy Day broadcast on Friday, highlighting the contributions of Yar’Adua to Nigeria’s democratic development. “Among the architects of modern democratic Nigeria, we honour General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua for his vision of national partnership. In recognition of his contributions, the Federal Government has approved the revitalisation and renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna,” the President stated.
General Yar’Adua, elder brother of late President Umaru Yar’Adua, died in December 1997 while in detention following accusations of coup plotting under the regime of military ruler Sani Abacha.
The renaming is part of the federal government’s initiative to strengthen educational institutions and commemorate the legacies of key figures in Nigeria’s democratic history.
