Tinubu orders full support for rescued oyo schoolchildren, teachers after 56-day ordeal

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed relevant government agencies to provide comprehensive medical care, psychological support and relief assistance to the schoolchildren and teachers rescued after spending 56 days in the captivity of kidnappers in Oriire community, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The President expressed deep relief over the successful rescue operation, commending the security forces involved in securing the release of the victims and describing the development as a significant victory in the fight against criminal activities threatening communities across the country.

The rescue operation was carried out through a coordinated effort involving the Nigerian military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force. The operation resulted in the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers, while other members of the criminal gang were reportedly neutralised during the engagement.

In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the security agencies for their dedication, bravery and persistence throughout the rescue mission.

The President acknowledged the trauma experienced by the children, teachers and their families during their prolonged captivity, offering assurances that the government would provide the necessary support to help them recover from the emotional and psychological effects of the incident.

Tinubu also commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation and support during the rescue efforts, stressing the importance of continued collaboration between federal and state authorities in tackling insecurity.

He directed emergency management agencies to immediately work with the Oyo State Government to provide healthcare services, counselling, rehabilitation and other forms of assistance required by the rescued victims.

The President further called on the Oyo State Government and relevant security authorities to strengthen protection around schools, communities and other vulnerable locations to prevent future attacks and ensure the safety of students and teachers.

He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to confront terrorism, kidnapping and other security threats, assuring Nigerians that security agencies would continue to intensify efforts to protect lives and property across the country.
