Eno Establishes Stand-Alone Ministry to Strengthen Internal Security, Waterways — Umanah
The Akwa Ibom State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of lives and property, with security identified as a central pillar of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Dr. Aniekan Umanah, stated this on Friday, October 23, 2026, during a Ministerial Press Briefing by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at Government House, Uyo.
Umanah explained that the briefing was organised to demonstrate the Eno administration’s commitment to probity, transparency and accountability by providing government officials with a platform to present their activities, achievements and policy direction to the public.
He described the exercise as revealing, noting that it had provided members of the media with deeper insights into the administration’s policies, programmes and investments across critical sectors.
According to the commissioner, the government recognises that the security and welfare of citizens constitute its primary responsibility, prompting sustained investments in internal security and stronger collaboration among relevant security agencies.
He stressed that the protection of lives and property occupies a strategic position in the ARISE Agenda, adding that Governor Eno had demonstrated his commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture through the establishment of a stand-alone Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways.
Umanah said the ministry was created to improve coordination, planning and operational effectiveness in addressing security challenges across the state.
He explained that the decision reflected the administration’s recognition of the need for a coordinated security framework, particularly given Akwa Ibom’s extensive coastline and strategic oil and gas infrastructure.
The commissioner further noted that the state government was pursuing an integrated approach to security and transportation to ensure that policies and investments in both sectors contribute to public safety.
He maintained that the administration remained committed to strengthening governance, improving security coordination and ensuring that government policies and programmes deliver meaningful benefits to the people of Akwa Ibom.
