Major General Everest Okoro Assumes Command as 6 Division GOC, Vows to Strengthen Security Operations

Major General Everest Ifeanyi Okoro has officially taken over the leadership of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Land Component Commander of the Joint Task Force, Operation DELTA SAFE.

The new commander assumed duty from Major General Emmanuel Emekah during a colourful change of command ceremony held at the Headquarters of the 6 Division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The ceremony marked the formal transfer of authority and responsibility as the Division welcomed its new GOC.

In a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adam, the Army confirmed the leadership transition, highlighting the significance of continuity and effective command in achieving the Division’s operational objectives.

Speaking during the ceremony, the outgoing GOC, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, expressed deep appreciation to officers and soldiers of the Division for their professionalism, loyalty, discipline, and commitment throughout his tenure.

Major General Emekah acknowledged the contributions of the Division’s personnel in improving security across the Niger Delta region, particularly in protecting critical oil infrastructure.

He noted that the Division’s operations played a key role in supporting the increase in Nigeria’s crude oil production from approximately 1.3 million barrels per day to 1.5 million barrels per day.

The former GOC charged personnel to remain committed, disciplined, and supportive of the new leadership to enable the Division to sustain its achievements.

In his first remarks as Commander, Major General Everest Okoro thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the confidence and trust placed in him through the appointment.

He pledged to consolidate the gains made by his predecessor by strengthening ongoing security operations, protecting national assets, and supporting initiatives aimed at boosting oil production and improving national revenue.

Major General Okoro assured officers and soldiers of his determination to provide strategic leadership while working collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to fulfil the mandate of the 6 Division and Operation DELTA SAFE.

The event featured key military transition activities, including the signing of handover notes, presentation of insignia, decoration of the new GOC with the Divisional Badge, presentation of the Divisional Flag, and a group photograph to officially mark the change of command.
