FG Moves to Revive National Library Project After 18 Years of Abandonment
As part of efforts to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the Federal Government has announced plans to resume full construction work on the long-abandoned National Library project.
The move follows the completion of a comprehensive furnishing contract for the iconic facility, which has remained stalled for about 18 years.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who disclosed this in Abuja, described the development as a major breakthrough for Nigeria’s education sector, praising President Tinubu for providing the leadership needed to revive the project.
The Minister also commended First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her intervention after she directed that gifts received during her birthday celebration be channelled towards completing the National Library.
According to Alausa, the initiative generated about ₦25 billion, which, alongside funding from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, and other sources, has strengthened efforts towards completing the project.
He expressed optimism that construction work would resume fully in the coming months, describing it as a significant milestone that will end years of uncertainty surrounding the National Library.
