Dr. Abuh Mohammed Leads NPC Delegation to high level 81st UNGA TALKS
The Director-General of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Abuh Mohammed, is leading a delegation of the Commission to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States of America.
The NPC delegation is participating in the proceedings of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, otherwise known as the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee, as Nigeria joins other member states in deliberations on issues affecting global social and human development.
The Third Committee is responsible for considering a broad range of issues covering social development, humanitarian affairs, human rights and the welfare of populations across the world.
Dr. Mohammed’s participation is particularly focused on matters within the mandate of the NPC, including population dynamics, demographic trends, social development and the critical role of accurate population data in effective governance and development planning.
The engagement provides Nigeria an opportunity to contribute to international discussions on population and human development while strengthening cooperation and knowledge exchange with other countries and relevant international institutions.
The NPC’s presence at the UN General Assembly also underscores the importance of population statistics to national development, as governments increasingly rely on credible demographic data to formulate policies and allocate resources effectively.
Under Dr. Mohammed’s leadership, the Commission is using the international platform to deepen its engagement with the global community and advance discussions around population management, demographic planning and evidence-based development.
His participation in the UNGA forms part of his official engagements aimed at advancing the mandate of the Commission and strengthening its international partnerships and visibility.
Proceedings of the Third Committee are expected to continue as member states deliberate on issues before the committee.
