Asadu’s Supporters Challenge Mbah’s Media Team to Address Enugu North Concerns
Supporters of the NDC Senatorial Candidate for Enugu North, Rt. Hon. Dr. Patrick Asadu, have challenged the media team of Governor Peter Mbah to address the concerns raised by the former lawmaker instead of focusing on his political record.
The supporters made the position in a rejoinder to a statement by Jude C. Okoro, who they said attempted to defend the governor against Asadu’s criticisms.
Asadu had raised concerns about taxation, infrastructure development and what he described as unequal distribution of government projects across Enugu North Senatorial District.
His supporters said the response by Okoro failed to directly address the issues and instead questioned what Asadu achieved during his years in the National Assembly.
They argued that Asadu’s legislative and constituency record should be assessed through verifiable projects and interventions rather than political claims.
The group cited educational, healthcare and other constituency interventions which they attributed to the former lawmaker, including school projects, provision of learning materials, scholarships, medical outreaches and healthcare facilities.
The supporters also challenged the state government to provide a breakdown of road projects executed in Enugu North.
They specifically asked the government to identify the projects, their locations, length, cost, contractors and current status to enable residents independently assess the administration’s infrastructure record in the district.
The challenge comes amid the Enugu State Government’s claim that the Mbah administration has constructed or reconstructed more than 1,521 kilometres of roads across the state.
The state government’s Project Monitoring and Accountability Platform also currently lists road projects across Enugu North and other local government areas, including projects involving multiple roads in the New Haven zone.
On taxation, Asadu’s supporters called on the government to explain the taxes and levies affecting traders and other residents, as well as measures introduced to reduce their burden.
The governor’s media aide, Mazi Uche Anichukwu, had recently disputed claims that residents were being overtaxed, saying the administration had reviewed and reduced some state-level charges and eliminated daily revenue collection from petty traders.
The supporters maintained that political disagreements should not prevent public officials from responding to questions concerning governance and the welfare of residents.
They urged the government to publish detailed information on projects across the six local government areas of Enugu North, saying residents should be allowed to independently assess the distribution of infrastructure in the district.
They further said the 2027 elections would provide voters with an opportunity to assess the records, policies and programmes presented by the various political actors.
