OYO ASSEMBLY APPROVES MAKINDE’S ANNUAL VACATION, DEPUTY GOVERNOR TO STEER AFFAIRS

Lawmakers assure residents of uninterrupted governance as governor proceeds on leave August 10

The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on his annual vacation, with Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal mandated to oversee the affairs of the state during the period.

The governor’s request was presented before the lawmakers during Thursday’s plenary, where the letter was read by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the sitting in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.

Governor Makinde is expected to commence his annual leave on August 10, 2026, and return to official duties on September 14, 2026, after the vacation period.

The lawmakers unanimously granted the approval, expressing confidence in the ability of the deputy governor to provide effective leadership and ensure the smooth running of government activities.

The Assembly charged Deputy Governor Lawal to supervise the daily administration of the state, sustain ongoing projects, and ensure that government policies and programmes remain on course while Governor Makinde is away.

Speaking after the approval, Deputy Speaker Fadeyi wished Governor Makinde a peaceful and refreshing vacation, while assuring that the legislature would continue to maintain a strong partnership with the executive arm in the interest of the people of Oyo State.

Fadeyi also commended the stability of the state’s governance structure, noting that the existing arrangement would guarantee continuity and prevent any disruption in the implementation of government policies.

The approval reflects the constitutional provision for seamless governance as Governor Makinde temporarily steps away for his an

nual break.
