Abakaliki Diocese Announces Death of Bishop Peter Nworie Chukwu

The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki has announced the passing of its bishop, Most Reverend Peter Nworie Chukwu, who died on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the age of 60.
In an official notice issued on April 11, the Vicar General, Fr. Donatus Oluwa Chukwu, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and called on priests and lay faithful to pray for the repose of the late bishop’s soul.
Born on November 5, 1965, Bishop Chukwu was ordained a priest on July 3, 1993. He later rose to become the third bishop of the Diocese of Abakaliki, following his consecration and installation on August 19, 2021.
The diocese said funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
The statement concluded with prayers for the eternal rest of the bishop and all the faithful departed.
