Karu twin flyovers near completion as nasarawa intensifies infrastructure drive

The construction of the twin flyovers in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has reached an advanced stage, with the state government expressing confidence that the major infrastructure project will soon be completed and opened to ease traffic pressure along the busy corridor.

The development was disclosed in Lafia by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule, Mr Peter Ahemba, who said the pace of work on the project demonstrates the government’s determination to provide lasting solutions to transportation challenges confronting residents and commuters.

Ahemba explained that the Karu flyovers are among the strategic infrastructure projects designed to address growing traffic congestion caused by increased population, commercial activities and daily movement of residents, particularly those travelling between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory.

He noted that Karu’s position as a major gateway local government area makes it one of the busiest transportation hubs in the state, with thousands of commuters, traders and businesses relying on the corridor daily.

According to him, the completion of the twin flyovers will significantly improve vehicular movement, reduce travel time, enhance road safety and provide smoother access for residents, businesses and visitors using the route.

“With the twin structures nearing completion, attention is now shifting to the final stages of construction, including last-mile works, finishing touches and preparations for the official opening,” Ahemba said.

He added that the Karu projects represent part of the state government’s broader urban renewal and transport infrastructure agenda aimed at creating efficient road networks that can support economic growth and improve connectivity across communities.

The governor’s aide also revealed that work is progressing steadily on the Keffi flyover, another major transportation project expected to transform movement within the area, while the Akwanga flyover has already been completed and commissioned for public use.

Beyond urban road projects, Ahemba said the Nasarawa State Government has commenced a fresh phase of rural road construction aimed at connecting previously underserved communities and opening up new opportunities for economic development.

He explained that the rural infrastructure programme is focused on improving access to markets, healthcare facilities, schools and other essential services, while boosting agricultural and commercial activities in rural areas.

The first beneficiaries of the new road construction phase, according to him, include communities in Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas, Garaku in Kokona Local Government Area and Gadabuke in Toto Local Government Area.

“These projects are designed to open up communities, improve transportation networks and support economic activities at the grassroots level,” he stated.

Ahemba further disclosed that the state government is preparing to award additional contracts for more grassroots infrastructure projects in the coming weeks as part of efforts to spread development across the state.

He said the administration remains committed to implementing projects that directly impact residents, improve mobility and strengthen the state’s economic potential.

The ongoing flyovers and road projects underline Nasarawa State Government’s strategy of combining urban infrastructure expansion with rural connectivity to create a more integrated transportation network capable of supporting long-term growth and development.
