James Family Makes History as England Duo
For nearly 25 years, Nigel James has been coaching young footballers in south-west London. Now, he can proudly say that his children, Lauren and Reece James, have made history as the first brother and sister to play senior football for England in the modern era.
“Sometimes I still ask myself, ‘Can I believe it?’” Nigel says. “But it’s real. The whole James family is so proud of what the kids have achieved. Seeing your children reach the very top of their profession is an incredible feeling.”
Reece is expected to start at right back for England in the World Cup, which begins this Thursday. Speaking at his Wimbledon academy, Nigel recalled Reece’s early days: “He trained with us on Friday evenings, scoring goals with friends. It was all about fun, like a youth club experience, which kids rarely get nowadays.”
Nigel’s academy has also nurtured talents like Jack Rudoni, soon to join Coventry City in the Premier League. “We aim to produce not just players, but confident, well-rounded young people,” he adds. “They make friends, build confidence, and open doors to opportunities far beyond football.”
