Legendary Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler has been placed in an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery, according to her spokesman.
The 74-year-old music icon was reportedly rushed to a hospital near her home in Faro, Portugal, on Wednesday for the emergency procedure.
In an update released Thursday evening, her spokesman said doctors placed the singer into an induced coma to aid her recovery.
“Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery,” the statement read.
The spokesman also appealed for privacy, adding that further updates would be provided when possible.
Born Gaynor Hopkins in Neath, Wales, Tyler rose to global fame with her 1983 smash hit Total Eclipse of the Heart, which recently surpassed one billion streams on Spotify.
She was discovered by talent scout Roger Bell in Swansea and released her debut single Lost in France in 1977.
