Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo: Thousands Turn Out for Ubong Idemudo’s NDC Campaign Launch

Thousands of supporters, party faithful, political stakeholders and residents on Saturday thronged Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State, as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) formally unveiled Engr. Ubong Idemudo as its candidate for the Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, which featured the unveiling of Idemudo and the commissioning of the party’s new campaign office along Ibekwe Road, attracted supporters from the three local government areas that make up the federal constituency.
The gathering turned into a major political rally, with supporters singing, chanting and expressing solidarity with the NDC candidate.
The large turnout was described as a demonstration of the growing support for Idemudo, with party faithful expressing confidence in his ability to effectively represent the constituency at the National Assembly.
The newly commissioned NDC office, donated by Idemudo, is expected to serve as a centre for the party’s activities, mobilisation and grassroots engagement across the constituency.
Among the dignitaries at the event were the NDC State Chairman, Dr. Bassey Willie; the party’s Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District candidate, Engr. Frank Okon (AFONAMA); other state constituency candidates; members of the State Working Committee; local government executives; chapter leaders; stakeholders and supporters from Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo.
Addressing the gathering, Idemudo called for unity among party members and supporters, pledging to pursue people-oriented representation with emphasis on infrastructure development, youth empowerment and economic advancement.
He described the NDC as “the only credible alternative that will win elections in 2027 and deliver good governance to the people,” while urging constituents to support the party’s candidates across the ballot.
Idemudo also commended the party’s national and state leadership, particularly Dr. Bassey Willie and the NDC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Dr. Michael Enyong, popularly known as Babantan, for their leadership and direction.
In his remarks, the NDC State Chairman, Dr. Bassey Willie, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to credible leadership, effective representation and good governance for the people of Akwa Ibom State.
The event marked a major step in Idemudo’s campaign for the 2027 election, as he begins his grassroots mobilisation across Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo.
The massive turnout in Ikot Abasi signals significant grassroots enthusiasm for the NDC candidate as the political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
