Super Falcons Lead Zambia 1-0 Despite Demehin Red Card in WAFCON Clash
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are currently leading Zambia’s Copper Queens 1-0 in their crucial second Group C match at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The 10-time African champions took the lead in the 21st minute through striker Asisat Oshoala, who finished clinically to give Nigeria an early advantage.
However, the Falcons have been reduced to 10 players after defender Oluwatosin Demehin was shown a red card following a foul on Zambia captain Barbra Banda.
The encounter is a must-win fixture for Nigeria, who are seeking to recover from their disappointing opening-day 3-2 defeat to tournament debutants Malawi.
Zambia entered the match with confidence after a dominant start to their campaign, defeating Egypt 6-0 in their opening Group C fixture.
In the other Group C match played earlier, Malawi defeated Egypt 3-1 to secure qualification for the quarter-finals.
The Super Falcons must now hold on against Zambia as they fight to keep their WAFCON title defence alive.
