NUJ FCT Chairman Sets Agenda for New SOPTCAM Leadership, Pushes Training and Innovation
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has challenged members of the newly inaugurated executive committee of the Society of Practicing Television Cameramen (SOPTCAM), FCT Chapter, to raise the bar of professionalism through continuous training, technological innovation, and strict adherence to ethical standards.
Ike gave the charge during the inauguration of the new SOPTCAM FCT leadership, where she emphasised the need for television cameramen to remain relevant in an industry increasingly shaped by digital transformation and changing audience demands.
She urged the association to invest in workshops, certification programmes, digital upskilling, and advocacy initiatives that would strengthen members’ professional capacity, improve welfare, and promote excellence in broadcast journalism.
“We encourage you to prioritise continuous training in emerging technologies, digital production and distribution, safety on set, visual ethics, and multimedia storytelling,” she said.
The NUJ FCT Chairman also encouraged practitioners to embrace digital workflows and online platforms capable of creating new opportunities for innovation, revenue generation, and wider audience reach.
She expressed confidence that the new executive would lead with unity, commitment, and bold initiatives capable of delivering meaningful progress for SOPTCAM members and the broadcasting community.
