Tinubu delivers housing boost to law school, commissions new staff quarters in bwari
President approves 20 more residential units as FG moves to strengthen legal education infrastructure
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has moved to address accommodation challenges at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, with the commissioning of 10 newly completed staff quarters and the approval of 20 additional housing units for the institution.
The development, described as a major boost to staff welfare and institutional growth, is part of the Federal Government’s broader plan to improve infrastructure and strengthen key national institutions under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu said the investment in the Nigerian Law School reflects his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for quality legal training and a stronger justice system.
He stressed that a well-functioning legal sector depends on institutions that are properly equipped and supported, while commending the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his efforts in delivering critical infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
At the commissioning ceremony, Wike disclosed that the President approved the construction of the additional 20 housing units after concerns were raised over the accommodation needs of staff of the Law School.
He noted that the new housing project would complement other ongoing developments, including the construction of two 300-bed student hostels and other infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving the learning environment at the institution.
The Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as another indication of the Federal Government’s commitment to renewing public institutions, while praising the FCT administration for accelerating development projects.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Dauda, the completed quarters comprise 10 fully furnished four-bedroom bungalows with essential facilities, including roads, electricity, water supply and parking spaces.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Dr. Olugbemisola Odusote, said the project would significantly reduce staff accommodation challenges and improve welfare.
The Chairman of the Council of Legal Education, Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN, also hailed the initiative, noting that improved housing facilities would help attract and retain quality professionals while enhancing the standard of legal education in Nigeria.
