Amad’s 90th-Minute Magic Stuns Ecuador
Manchester United winger Amad Diallo struck a dramatic 90th-minute winner as Ivory Coast edged Ecuador 1-0 in their opening Group E match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Philadelphia.
The decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time after Wilfried Singo drove forward down the right flank and delivered a low cross into the edge of the penalty area. Amad, introduced in the 56th minute, controlled the delivery with composure before sweeping a first-time left-footed finish into the bottom corner to seal all three points for the Elephants.
The late strike capped a tense contest that had looked destined to end goalless despite several clear chances for both sides. Ecuador twice hit the crossbar in the first half through John Yeboah and Alan Minda, while Enner Valencia was denied by the post after the break. Ivory Coast also came close, with Elye Wahi striking the woodwork in the second half.
Amad’s winner sparked wild celebrations among the Ivory Coast players and substitutes, who rushed to the corner flag to celebrate with the Manchester United forward.
The result ends Ecuador’s impressive 19-match unbeaten run, which included 13 clean sheets, and marks a perfect start for Ivory Coast, who sit second in Group E after the opening round of fixtures.
Ivory Coast now turn their attention to a heavyweight clash against Germany in Toronto on Saturday.
